Mopeds are no longer the preserve of 15 year-old kids. They are increasingly in demand from older target groups who want a scooter instead of a second car. Given worsening traffic congestion in major cities, and that many people still sit alone in their cars, we wanted to design a commuting option.
Moped sales have increased 500 percent in less than 10 years. Currently, there a range of moped brands from Asia and some from southern Europe. In terms of design, they are still relatively similar, despite many modern urban commuters looking for a more stylish product, something they deem more appropriate to their professional identity.
The concept for this project is designed as a thesis in collaboration with Volvo Cars. The main aim of the project was to implement and communicate a brand’s identity in moped design.
This is a brand new market for Volvo, where its design expression and values have been applied to a new but related segment to its usual activities.
